The Most Wonderful Microbe of the Year

There is no doubt that we take bacteria here seriously at the Royal Treatment and to kick off the holiday season we were reminded today how bacteria play a role in just about everything that happens around us.  Consider the falling snow today – An article published in Scientific American in 2008 showed that bacteria produce proteins in their cell walls that bind water.  The water is bound in such an orderly fashion that water droplets freezing around a microbe almost mirror the natural lattice formation of ice.  This allows snow to form at warmer temperatures than would otherwise be the case.  As you continue to read the article it becomes clear that micro-organisms are able to do some pretty amazing things at a macro level, and it all starts with a little bacteria.
